January. The month he was born… The month that he departed…
I didn’t forget his birthday on Monday. I was tied up with too many things preparing to catch a flight out of town for work early the next morning. No time to fit a spell on Facebook into my schedule. I will never forget his birthday as long as I live; as long as I am blessed with the ability to remember… and I will also never forgot the moment I heard he was no longer with us. Hard to believe we have already reached the 2 year anniversary of the day the world received the sad and shocking news. It seems like yesterday… Some days it’s a fresh open wound all over again, and I weep in heartbroken disbelief…
It seems like the world became a different world when David moved on to the non-physical; like there was a shift in the Universe, and everything, everywhere, became slightly unhinged. The world to me has always been utter madness; the virtue and sanity of human existence hanging by what now feels like a very precarious thread. How can we help but be the confused and searching creatures that we are? I believe that art, music, compassionate and non-destructive creativity are essential ingredients to our healing, our understanding, and our survival. If we lose our connection to art in all its’ forms, if we allow it to be diluted and tainted, or even discarded, we all lose everything.
An artist the likes of David Bowie is very special gift; for what they are able to bring into the world for us to see, hear, and experience is like a confirmation of Life in its’ purest, most passionate form… the place from which, if given the choice or the opportunity, most of us would like to operate and thrive.
And so, an enormous “Thank You” and a “Happy (Belated) Birthday” to my dear friend, David Jones! He will always exist in my heart, in my memories, and in my unwavering love and devotion to music and art… Although we may miss him, he lives on and on like the sun, the moon, and the stars… Hallelujah.
